The Royal Bank of Canada Burnside Branch Celebrates LNSS’s Field Official and their Employee Scott McMullen’s Journey to the World U19 Championships in Turku, Finland
Lacrosse Nova Scotia extends a heartfelt thank you to the Staff of the Royal Bank of Canada on Brownlow Avenue in Burnside for celebrating and demonstrating their support of their co-worker Scott McMullen who has been selected to officiate at the World U19 Championships in Turku, Finland. Mervyn Broome, Senior Account Manager Business & Personal and Amy Hutt, Branch Manager pulled out all the stops. The morning started with a celebratory breakfast followed a delicious cake. The branch was decorated to reflect Scott’s love of lacrosse, and all the staff wore Lacrosse Nova Scotia Jerseys to show they were all part of Scott’s Team.
Merv shared some very poignant remarks this morning reflecting on the role of the official in any sport. He explained that an official is like the CEO of a company, one is always managing expectations. The official sets the tone of the game just like a CEO does for their business. An official’s relationship with the players, coaches, and spectators enhances the experience for everyone involved. They are either loved or hated depending on how the game is unfolding, and despite the often terse comments thrown their way, they return to the floor, ice, or field time after time so others can play the sport that they love.
Scott grew up in Cole Harbour and still lives there with his wife and son. District 4 Councillor Lorelei Nicoll joined everyone in the Branch in the afternoon to share congratulatory wishes with Scott, and to learn more about lacrosse’s 600 year First Nation history.
Today RBC celebrated the lacrosse field official, and the important role one of their employees will play in an upcoming world championship, Lacrosse Nova Scotia was thrilled to play an important role in their celebration.
Thank you RBC we had a wonderful day!
